WHO

WE ARE

Pool Chapel Missionary Baptist Church was  organized in August of 1913.  Church was held in member's homes from 1913 to 1919.  The Pastors are listed in the order of their leadership :   Rev. Henderson Spurlock (1), Rev. Alex Mikerran(2),  Rev. R. D. Davis(3) .

On  January 18, 1919, J. J. Dormand and wife Mamie Dorman conveyed  one acre of land to Lennie Griggs, John Davis, Jessie Smith and Jack Green whom were trustees of Pool Chapel.  The acre was located on the west side of Pools Creek south of and adjacent to Highway 21 and was deeded to Pool Chapel for $50.00.  A building was built by the community and church members and soon became a school.

The pastors following afterwards were Rev. H. Y. Chambers, Rev. Walter Johnson, and Rev. Horace Jackson. There were many members who provided leadership in various ministries. On September 8, 1953, Mr. Algie Sm, Lennie Griggs and Jessie Smith purchased the lot that Pool Chapel is now located on for $300.00 with a downpayment of $100.00 and $30.00 a month until paid in full. In 1954 the church was moved to town and in 1955 Rev. Sam Jones became the pastor of Pool Chapel and served for 25 years.   In 1968 Ed Nuggent and Charles Booker, trustees borrowed $1800.00 to make repairs on the church.   Along with moving the church came a big celebration at homecoming . Mothers of the church were chosen and we have continued the process up to this present time. In 1976 the original church was torned down and trustees, W. D. Guice, Glenn McCoy Jr., and Bobby Gilbert borrowed 25,200.00 for our present sanctuary which war erected on August 8, 1976 with members paying a $10,000.00 down payment financed through Bryan Building and Loan.  Service was held in the American Legion Building on 75.

Rev. Sam Jones became ill and appointed R. C. Smith to be pastor until his death in which he continue to receive full salary.  In 1980 Rev. Lloyd Jones was appointed pastor.  A meeting was held on December 12, 1982 to notify the members the note of $25,000.00 was paid off.  Rev. Jones resigned. In 1983 Rev. Eddie Williams was called to be pastor. Deacons were added to the Deacon Board, The Mother of the Church was selected and the Junior Mission was organized.  Rev. Williams resigned in 1988. In May 1988, Rev. C.D. Rouse was called to pastor.  He was the youngest pastor Pool Chapel has ever had.  Rev. De F. Johnson was called as the 11th pastor of Pool Chapel.  He continued to build upon the foundation that was already laid.  Under his leadership, new air conditioners were purchased, new carpet installed, a new wooden floor added to pulpit, purchased  additional property, renovated the pastor's office, the church, and the kitchen was completely remodeled.  The Communion Table, The Offering Table, The Pulpit, and The Speaker stands were refurbished by the prison, New pulpit furniture purchased, Pews Upholstered, purchased vans, new roof, new lights, new sound system, and addition of the vestibule and new restrooms in the front.  Pastor Johnson continues to be led by God to lead this church to higher heights.  His message reaches out to many of God's people who lives are transformed by the power of God.
